Eastern North Carolina Turfgrass Association
I hope everyone is geared up for the dog days of summer! Everyone in the East are ready to go. Over the past few months we have had some good meetings and fellowship. In April, we meet at The Beaufort Club (formally North River Club) where Dr. Brandenburg was schedule to speak. Unfortunately, Dr. Brandenburg became ill and Mr. Matt Martin was able to help out and give us a very informative talk. Jonathan Birkett had the course in excellent shape and playing was a real treat. Lunch was especially outstanding with Shrimp n Grits. We always eat great at our meetings! On a side note, everyone from the East wish Dr. Brandenburg a quick and speedy recovery.
In May we had our annual scholarship fundraiser golf tournament at Benvenue Country Club in Rocky Mount. Dave Jacobs and his staff had the course in pristine condition. We had an excellent turnout with outstanding support from our sponsors. As special thank you to Triangle Chemical as our title sponsor as well as Green Resource, Regal, Revels John Deere, TSP and Southern Seed for close ups and long drives.
Congratulations to our winners:
1st Gross: Tri East Ag 1st Net Regal
2nd Southern Seed 2nd Kinston CC
Our next meeting is June 15th at Roanoke Country Club with Tommy Walston from East Carolina University. Also we will return to Kinston for our annual family night in August. The Down East Woodducks will be our host. I anticipate a great turnout. Make sure you contact one of our members and purchase a raffle ticket to support our Bill Sutton Scholorship Fund for several cash prizes.
In closing, Our thoughts and prayers have been with Tim Kreger and his family for his speedy recovery. Hope to see you out East soon!
