Job Summary/Scope
The purpose of this position is to maintain and repair golf course equipment and vehicles. Successful performance helps ensure that golf equipment, grounds, and facilities are well maintained.
The work consists of related mechanical repair and maintenance duties. Inclement weather conditions contribute to the complexity of the work.
Job Responsibilities
Major Duties
- Maintains and repairs golf course equipment, including turf mowers, parks department equipment, golf carts, and heavy equipment such as dump trucks.
- Performs golf course buildings repair.
- Maintains an inventory of parts and supplies; orders parts and supplies as needed.
- Assists the Supervisor with any office related duties, including budgeting and invoicing
- Performs general maintenance procedures on golf course
- Supervises employees in absence of Supervisor
- Supervises inmates and community service workers.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Guidelines
- Guidelines include department standard operating procedures, Parks and Recreation Policy Manual, repair manuals, and relevant city, state, and federal codes, laws, and regulations. These guidelines are generally clear and specific but may require some interpretation in application.
Supervisory/Management Responsibility
- The position has direct supervision over assigned personnel.
Minimum Qualifications & Requirements
Education/Experience Requirements
- Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent.
- Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
- Possession of or ability to readily obtain a Class B CDL within 12 months of hire.
- CPR/AED/First Aid Certification is required
- Pesticide License and Certified Reclaimed Water Applicator preferred
Knowledge Requirements
- Knowledge of the standards, materials, techniques, and equipment used in the maintenance of a municipal golf course and city parks.
- Knowledge of the repair and maintenance of golf course equipment, parks department equipment, and vehicles.
- Knowledge of department and city policies and procedures and relevant federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
- Skills in planning, organization, and decision making.
- Skill in the operation and repair of turf irrigation system.
- Skill in oral and written communication.
Work Environment/Physical Demands
- The work is typically performed outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather, while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, or walking.
- The employee may be exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, and irritating chemicals.
- The work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, and gloves.
- The employee frequently lifts light and occasionally heavy objects, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, and must distinguish between shades of color.

Gold Course Superintendent
Ayden Golf & Country Club is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Golf Course Superintendent to oversee all aspects of golf course maintenance and grounds operations. This position is responsible for maintaining the golf course in championship level condition while ensuring an exceptional playing experience for members and guests. The Superintendent reports to the General Manager with responsibilities to lead, train, and manage the grounds staff and oversee agronomic programs, equipment, irrigation systems, and course improvement projects.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Golf Course Maintenance & Agronomy
- Plan, supervise, and execute all golf course maintenance activities, including but not limited to: mowing, fertilization, aerification, topdressing, and pest control.
- Develop and implement agronomic programs to ensure optimal turf health, playability, and aesthetics.
- Monitor turf conditions and adjust maintenance practices based on weather, seasonal changes, and course usage.
- Maintain greens, tees, fairways, roughs, bunkers, and practice facilities to the highest standards.
Staff Leadership & Management
- Recruit, hire, train, schedule, and supervise grounds maintenance personnel.
- Foster a positive, professional, and safety-focused work environment.
- Conduct regular staff meetings and performance evaluations.
- Ensure compliance with all safety standards and regulations.
Irrigation & Equipment Management
- Oversee operation, maintenance, and repair of irrigation systems.
- Monitor water usage and implement efficient irrigation practices.
- Coordinate maintenance and repair of all golf course equipment and vehicles.
- Maintain accurate maintenance and inventory records.
Course Improvement & Club Collaboration
- Develop and execute short-term and long-term course improvement plans.
- Collaborate with the General Manager on course conditions and course maintenance scheduling.
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and cost control for maintenance operations.
- Communicate regularly with club leadership regarding course conditions and projects.
Environmental Stewardship & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal environmental regulations.
- Promote sustainable turf management practices.
- Maintain proper records for chemical applications and safety compliance.
Qualifications & Experience Required
- Minimum of 4 years of golf course maintenance experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
- Strong knowledge of turfgrass management, irrigation systems, and golf course maintenance practices.
- An active pesticide applicator license
- Experience maintaining Bermuda grass greens
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including early mornings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Preferred: Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Turfgrass Management, Agronomy, or related field.
- Knowledge of warm-season turfgrass varieties common in North Carolina.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and operate equipment for extended periods.

Responsible for the overall condition of the golf course including but not limited : daily operations, Scheduling Maintenance, Managing Budgeted costs, and proper chemical usage. In order to maintain the turf and playing conditions for the Golf Course, to the highest level and provide the finest possible playing conditions and surroundings for members.Essential job functions
- Oversee and maintain turf and playing conditions to the highest level possible by direction of staff scheduling, landscape management, chemical applications, irrigation management, and special cultural practices.
- Supervise , coordinate, train, and schedule daily assignments and projects conducted by the golf course staff.
- Maintain certification in pesticide application by the appropriate regulatory agency.
- Apply fertilizer and chemicals to the golf course as conditions dictate i.e. fertilizers, applications, top dressing and aerification.
- Monitor all financial responsibilities including but not limited to daily expenditures, inventory control, purchasing , monthly and quarterly budgeting, and the yearly budgeting process.
- Oversee golf course equipment maintenance, inventory, and purchasing programs.
Education/ Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or one to two years of related experience and or training, or equivalent combination of the two.
- Three to Five years experience in Golf Course Maintenance.
Requirements
- Must be able to read and write to facilitate the communication process.
- Requires good communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Must possess basic computational ability.
- Knowledge of computer programs, math skills as well as budgetary analysis.
- Ability to supervise subordinate staff, including but not limited to, assignment of duties, evaluating service and taking disciplinary action when necessary.
- Knowledge of Golf Operations
- Must attend the Monthly Board Meeting Certificates/ Licenses Posses or have ability to obtain within 90 days
