North Shore Country Club is an 18-hole semi-private golfing community designed by Bob Moore in 1988. Nestled along the Intracoastal Waterway North Shore offers many natural views and separates us from Topsail Island. The course consists of Penncross greens, 419 Bermuda-grass tees, fairways, and roughs. The Irrigation system is a Toro Hydraulic system.
The individual who holds this position will supervise and participate in the everyday maintenance of the golf course. Duties include chemical and fertilizer applications, irrigation repairs, and record keeping. This individual must have a minimum two year turf-degree or certificate and be-able to obtain a N.C. Pesticide Applicator Licenses within 3-months of hire. Also, a keen eye for detail.

Assists in the planning of daily work actions and overall maintenance objectives of an 18-hole golf course. Acts as senior maintenance official during the absence of the Superintendent. Monitors golf course conditions and is given significant latitude in making decisions regarding daily practices based on observations. Performs operations and repairs to all areas of a highly technical golf course irrigation system. Performs all facets of golf course maintenance operations and trains subordinates. Maintains record of applications made to the course. Requires a high school diploma; an Associates degree in turfgrass management or a related field, preferred. Certification in turfgrass management and a State certified pesticide applicators license. Three years of golf course maintenance experience (i.e. irrigation operation, maintenance and repair; fertilizer calibration and application and equipment repair (reel grinding and adjusting experience, preferred). Works a flexible schedule to include weekdays, weekends and holidays for 37.50hrs/wk. Hiring Range: $18.81-21.65 per hour.Closing Date: Open until filled.
Grounds Maintenance Worker (4 positions)
County-wide
Provides general care of turf, ball fields and park amenities at assigned county parks, schools and selected public facilities. Operates small tractors to 25hp with turf related implements, self propelled machinery, power and manual hand tools and will operate trucks up to 2 tons. Requires some grounds maintenance / lawn care experience – at least 1 year desired. Must be at least 18 yrs old, with a valid Virginia driver’s license and a safe driving record; willing and able to safely and regularly lift 50-80lbs. Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, 7am – 3pm with some evening and weekend shifts. This is a seasonal position ending in December. Hiring Rate: $12.61/hr. Closing Date: March 3, 2010.
Grounds Maintenance Technician

General repair of turf through mowing, aerating, seeding, and fertilizing and the general maintenance and repair of ball fields and park amenities. Requires 2-3 years of progressive experience in this field. Will operate small and large self-propelled hand tools, 40-45 hp tractors and implements, flail, rotary and reel mowers with multiple decks, backhoes, dump trucks and trailers. MUST have VA Class A Commercial Driver’s License and technical certification for pesticide/herbicide application. Schedule: Generally works Monday – Friday 6:30am – 3:00pm with some evenings and weekends. This is a seasonal position. Salary: $17.02/hr. Closing Date: March 3, 2010.

Wendell Country Club

We are currently searching for a candidate to fill the position of Head Superintendent at Wendell Country Club. Wendell Country Club is a semi-private, 18 hole facility located approximately 12 miles east of Raleigh. The 18 hole facility was completed in 1985 and consists of Bermuda grass tees, fairways and greens. The course is equipped with tee to green irrigation with a plentiful source of water.

The CITY OF WILSON has an immediate opening and excellent opportunity available for a Crew Supervisor who possesses exception interpersonal, and communication skills to direct the maintenance and set up of Athletic Programs and Special Events, and assist in the maintenance of athletic fields, grounds, facilities, buildings, and equipment.
To be considered, candidates must have a Bachelors degree in Parks Administration, Turf Grass Management, or related field with at least 3 years municipal or private recreation, supervision, and administration experience; or an Associate degree in Turf Grass Management, Parks Maintenance, or related field and at least 5 years turf, turf equipment and/or crew leader experience. Must have knowledge of athletic fields maintenance and repair; installation of irrigation systems; techniques, materials and equipment used in the work; and repair and maintenance of turf mowing and pesticide application equipment. Must be able to operate equipment including backhoes, dump trucks, bobcats, and athletic field equipment; and be able to perform basic carpentry, plumbing, electrical, welding, and fiberglass installation, maintenance, and repair duties. Must also be skilled in the operation of a computer; be able to communicate effectively orally; and communicate effectively in writing utilizing MS Word, Excel, and Outlook Express Email and Calendars. Applicants possessing a Certified Parks and Recreation Professional will be preferred. A valid Driver License is required. A Pesticide license and Class A CDL are required within one year of hire.
Salary Range: $39,085 – $58,627 and an excellent benefits package which includes health insurance, dental and vision plans, 5% 401k contribution, and membership in the NCLGERS (retirement system).
