ENCTA Meeting – December 7, 2023

Hello faithful members of the Eastern NC Turfgrass Association,

It’s that time of year again.  The leaves are falling, the Carolinas GCSA Conference starts tomorrow, and we are just under a month out from the Eastern Association’s annual business meeting.  Our annual business meeting will be held at Wedgewood Golf Course in Wilson, NC on December 7th, 2023.  We will start registration at 9:15 am, the meeting will start at 10:00 am with lunch and golf to follow. 

At the meeting we will be honoring the service of 3 board members who will be completing their term.  Neil Jones, Evan Jarman, and TJ Quate will be cycling off the board this year.  We appreciate their service and professionalism over the last 2 years, and sincerely hope they will continue to be active, supportive members of the association. 

Over the last several months our Vice President, Chris Dunn, has assembled and lead the nominating committee.  He reported to me that the committee has nominated the following members for the 3 upcoming board vacancies:

Nick Gibson – Cutter Creek

Todd Holt – New Bern CC

Brad Brook – Tri Est Ag 

Please take time to consider these individuals.  All other members of the current board have agreed to continue to serve in their current roles, until the end of their term.  Asa membership, we will vote on the current nominations at the meeting onDecember 7th. 

Hopefully, I will see many of you at the Carolinas GCSA Conference and Trades Show this week.  Until then, stay warm and dry.

Randy Tetterman – 1964-2023

Dear Members, Colleagues, and Friends,

It is with much sadness I have to report the passing of one of our own. Randy Tetterton left us unexepectedly on October 16th, 2023. While I had shaken hands with him several times, I never had the pleasure of getting to know Randy. Dale Edmonds, our Treasurer, went to NCSU with Randy, and knew him well. For that reason, I asked Dale to write up something to send out to all of you. Please read the following, and keep Randy’s family in your thoughts and prayers.

Randy Tetterton was a long-time member and friend of the Eastern NC Turfgrass Association and he will be missed. He was a man of few words; however, he was a hard-working golf course superintendent. He made a difference in each place he worked and left it better than he found it!!!
I had the pleasure of meeting Randy in 1988 at NCSU. He worked for Bob Young at Carolina CC while in school. He not unlike the rest of us was trying to find our way in a competitive turfgrass industry. He was older than a lot of us, however, he enjoyed cutting up and learning about from Dr. Peacock, Dr. Bruneau, and Dr. Dipaola. During his time working for Barefoot and Associates, they completed an extensive drainage plan for my upcoming renovation at Wilson CC. I had not seen him in years and was very relieved when he was the foreman for Bo on my job. I knew I had very little to worry about as Randy was very diligent and committed to providing a quality product.
In closing, the Eastern NC Turfgrass Association offers our love and support to Randy’s family and friends during this time. Randy will be missed!!!
