September-October 2015 President’s Newsletter

ENCTA Members and Colleagues:

What a summer we have had? It seems like this was one of the busiest summers we have had in a long time; from growing in the Bermuda grass on the fairways and greens from winter kill to a very wet spring to a drought during late summer. But ENCTA still found time to get together during these busy times even though we had to cancel one of our meetings.

Our June 19th meeting at Reedy Creek Golf Course was canceled due to the weather conditions. Mr. Mickey McCord from McCord Golf & Safety Services was going to speak on How to Develop Your Own Golf Course Safety Program. He will be rescheduled to speak at our September with Mr. Bill Anderson at Falling Creek Country Club in Kinston. This will be a two hour meeting.

We are pleased to announce that the winner of the 2015 Bill Sutton Scholarship is Kristen Edmonds, who is the daughter of ENCTA Treasurer Dale Edmonds. Kristen is a rising junior at East Carolina University in Greenville, NC. She is in ECU Honors College and she is majoring in Physical Therapy with a GPA of 3.9.

July gave the members of ENCTA and their families an opportunity to get together after hours at a Morehead City Marlins baseball game in Morehead City, NC. Andy Ipock, Vice President of ENCTA and GCS at the Crystal Coast Country Club hosted the July meeting and Vandemark Sod Farms sponsored the event. Kristen Edmonds, daughter of the ENCTA Treasurer Dale Edmonds, was presented with the Bill Sutton Scholarship in between the first inning. The food, attendance and organization were pretty good considering we were off the beating path. This was a great opportunity to relax and spend time with our families.

Our August meeting was a joint meeting with the Cape Fear Association at North Shore Golf Club in Sneads Ferry, NC, hosted by Brian Williams. Matt Martin was the speaker. In September we had our Annual Golf Championship at Falling Creek Country Club hosted by Kyle Oakes and sponsored by Cardinal Chemical. Mr. Bill Anderson, CGCS from the Carolina Golf Association spoke on what he saw in the summer of 2015 and Mr. Mickey McCord from McCord Golf & Safety Services spoke on How to Develop Your Own Golf Course Safety Program.

Hope to see everyone at the Carolina GCSA Conference in Myrtle Beach in November. Our ENCTA business meeting and end of year meeting in December will be at Cypress Landing Golf Club. We would like to thank all of our 2015 sponsors and invite all of our members to our next few meetings. Please visit our website at www.encta.org and our Facebook page for more details and information on our 2015 schedule.
