May-June 2015 President’s Newsletter

ENCTA Members and Colleagues:

We had a very informative meeting in March. Thanks to Ken Gerhardt, General Manager and Josh Purvis, Golf Course Superintendent and their staff at Carolina Colours Golf Course in New Bern for hosting the event. Dr. David Hardy, Dr. Kristin Hicks and Dr. Weimin Ye all from NCDA & CS Agronomic Division, spoke to us on how to best interpret soil, tissue, water and nematode tests. I would like to personally thank them for taking time out of their day to spend with us. And for those of you who did not come; you missed a great lunch, the chicken and mac & cheese were awesome.

We had a great meeting in April. Thanks to David Coley and his staff at Belmont Lake Preserve Golf Club for hosting the event. Jim Schultes from A.C. Schultes spoke on the Understanding of Wells and Pump Stations. Great information was shared with us.

ENCTA has so much to be thankful for. Between the support of our renewing sponsors for 2015, our new sponsors for 2015 and everyone that supported our recent fundraising tournament. We are having a tremendous year, better than last. We have the most sponsors then we ever had. Our fundraising tournament sponsored by Smith Turf & Irrigation took place May 16th at Timberlake Golf Club in Clinton, NC. Thanks to Austin Allison and his staff for having the course in great condition.

Our next meeting will be at Reedy Creek Golf Course hosted by Roger Olmstead on June 18. Mickey McCord from McCord Golf and Safety Services will be speaking on How to Develop Your Own Golf Course Safety Program. In July we will be have a family night at a Morehead City Marlins baseball game in Morehead City, NC. This event will be hosted by Andy Ipock and sponsored by Vandemark Farms on July 16th and will give us a great opportunity to relax and spend time with our families. We would like to thank all of our 2015 sponsors and invite all of our members to our next few meetings. Please visit our website at www.encta.org and our Facebook page for more dates and information on our 2015 schedule.

President’s Newsletter – March/April 2015

Eastern Members and Colleagues:

ENCTA started off the year with our annual pesticide conference at Wayne Community College. Rob Woods hosted the meeting that included 4 hours of education and a great lunch. Special thanks goes to Ryan Stanley from Foster Lake and Pond Management, Lee Butler and Dr. Travis Gannon both from NC State for their presentations.

Josh Purvis will host our March meeting at Carolina Colours Golf Club in New Bern. David Hardy from NCDA & CS will speak on How to Best Interpret Soil, Water and Plant Test Results. We have not been to Carolina Colours in a while and I know we will be in for a treat. I am sure the course will be in great shape for those who chose to play.

David Coley will host our April meeting at Belmont Lake Preserve Golf Club on April 16th. A representative from A.C. Schultes will speak on Understanding Wells & Pump Stations: Keeping Your Course on Course.
Our fundraising tournament will be on May 14th at Timberlake Golf Club. Please plan on joining us for this important event where the proceeds help support turfgrass research, scholarships and other aspects of the turf industry.

I would like to thank all of our 2015 sponsors and the ENCTA board members for their continued efforts to ensure the success of the association. Please visit our website at www.encta.org and our Facebook page for more dates and information on our 2015 schedule.

President’s Newsletter – January 2015

ENCTA Members and Colleagues;

The fall of the year is a time for Superintendent’s to catch up with colleagues, relax and spend a little time with family. On October 14th, the Eastern NC Association competed against the Cape Fear Association for the Coastal Cup at Cypress Landing Golf Club. Although, we did not come out on top, everyone had a great time competing. This is a great event and we are already looking forward to the match next year.

Many members of the ENCTA traveled to Myrtle Beach for the annual CGCSA Conference and Trade Show in mid-November. What an excellent event and a great opportunity to take affordable education. Thank you to all of the staff of CGCSA and the board members for making this a success. It was a great show this year. The last two years a member from ENCTA has taken home $5000 as the winner from John Deere 27-hole challenge; this year we were not so lucky.

On December 4th, the members of ENCTA came together at Kinston Country Club for the annual membership meeting. Outgoing board members Daniel Lancaster from Wedgewood Golf Course, Chris Pearson from Green Resource and Brian Williams from North River Golf Club were honored and presented with plaques of appreciation for their service. Buckley Brockmann was honored and presented a plaque as out-going vice president; he has accepted another job and has gotten out of the turf industry. Andy Ipock from the Country Club of the Crystal Coast has been chosen to fill the vice president position. The new board members elected for 2-year terms were Bo Barefoot from Precision, Chris Parham from Greenville Country Club and Josh Stutts from Brandywine Golf Club.

ENCTA is extremely fortunate to have outstanding support from all of our sponsors. 2014 has been an excellent year for the association and we would like to thank you all and encourage all of our members to support companies that help make ENCTA and our industry so successful. Please visit our website at www.encta.org and our Facebook page for more dates and
information on our 2015 schedule. We wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
