ENCTA President’s Letter

Eastern North Carolina Turfgrass Association

Everything in the east has been rolling along as we end the year. In October we had our annual Ryder cup match with the Cape Fear Association for the Coastal Cup. The event was held at North Shore and Brian Williams and his staff had the course in wonderful condition considering Hurricane Matthew recently made a visit. It was a challenge building a team with the cleanup efforts after Matthew but we showed up and battled and came up just short. Next year will be our revenge!

We did not meet in November but most of our association attended the CGCSA conference and trade show. And once again the Carolinas did a wonderful job! However, we did do our annual scholarship raffle drawing at Bummzz and the lucky recipient that received 4 Carolina Panthers home tickets in the club level with money for hotel was Reed Hobbs of Regal. Congrats to Reed and enjoy the game. Go Panthers!

We held our Annual Business Meeting at Carolina Colours Country Club hosted by superintendent Josh Purvis. It was a well attended event and the food was awesome. A special thanks to our executive director of the CGCSA Tim Kreger for coming and sharing a few words and showing support for the east. We also said goodbye to three outgoing board members. Kyle Oaks Falling Creek Country Club, Bo Barefoot Precision Labs, and Josh Stutts Brandwine Country Club. Thank you very much for your service and dedication to the ENCTA Board of Directors. Matthew Cox Three Eagles Golf Club, Todd Holt New Bern Country Club and Mark Benton Tri-State Pumps will fill their shoes and I’m confident they will serve the association well.

We also honored longtime member and supporter of the association Don Jackson with a lifetime membership. Don has served the turf industry for 30 years. Don started with the Potter Brothers selling Jacobson equipment then with US Steel and later with Helena, Wilbro, Harrels and finished with Trinity chemical. Don is enjoying his retirement with his lovely wife Lynn (Sparky) serving the lord and enjoying the outdoors. Don enjoy your retirement, you have earned it.

Our next meeting will be our Annual Pesticide Meeting at Wayne Community in Goldsboro on January 26. Follow our website for details. I hope everyone has a successful and blessed 2017.
